Molly's Game
The movie story is about Molly Bloom, organizer behind one of the richest high stakes poker games in history. The book "Billion Dollar Hollywood Heist," by card shark Houston Curtis claims to tell the true story.
The book claims that it was "Tobey Maguire's Game" ("Player X") who was the actual mastermind and Molly Bloom was simply his assistant. Michael Cera who played Player X confirmed that Tobey Maguire (Spiderman) was in fact Player X.
Players included, Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Macaulay Culkin, Alex Rodriguez, Gabe Kaplan, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and the Russian mob.
Rounders
The Mayfair Club, the most famous underground poker club in New York City was the model for the Chesterfield Club used in the movie. The Mayfair located in Manhattan, operated with 6 circular tables since players dealt the games.
Teddy KGB played by John Malkovich, was named after supposed Russian spy, Eddie Pollak who played at the VFW Poker Club. The VFW Poker Club became the inspiration for Teddy KGB's club in the movie.
The Cincinnati Kid
Set in New Orleans, the story is about the battle for King of 5-Card Stud poker. Eric Stoner played by Steve McQueen, a young hot shot player, Lancey Howard played by Edward G. Robinson, an old master of the game clashed for the title.
The final hand shows a full house losing to a straight flush. The odds of this occurring in a two-handed game and both including 10s are an astronomical 332 billion to 1.
High Roller: The Stu Unger Story
High Roller is a true story and stars Michael Imperioli of Sparanos fame as Stu Unger. Born in 1953 in New York City, and a gambler by the age of 10, Unger had a genius level IQ and a photographic memory. He was the undisputed greatest Gin Rummy player of all time and considered by some as the greatest poker player second to none.
